Ongoing Research

This project is part of an ongoing research into nature-inclusive printing techniques, connecting source and materials to the final products to close the circle of receiving, creating, and giving.

Each step in the creation of these images stands in direct relation with the natural world; from taking the image of a natural element, to creating paper from organic waste, to turning ash and other pigmented natural substances into ink.

Step 1: The Image

For this experiment I chose to get up close and personal with my surroundings, and dive into the colours of autumn leaves using macro photography.

Step 2: The Paper

Created from (organic) waste materials and filled with flower seeds, this paper is meant to be returned to the earth and bring new life to the soil once its service has been completed.

Step 3: The Printing

The ink for these images came into existence with a bonfire. The leftover ashes were ground into a fine powder, which was then used to create an ink thick enough to use for screen printing.
